About This Listing

This Marimba plays fairly well, but is not in the best shape physically. It was in a Kansas City Jazz bar at one point and you can see cigarette burns on the frame ends from where the player would set his cigarette down while he was playing. The keys are made from Honduran Rosewood. This Marimba was made during WWII and the resonators are made of cardboard as opposed to aluminum because metal was rationed at the time. There are 4 resonators that are damaged (still seem to work fine, refer to video), including two that have been taped at the top. Some of the resonators are fraying towards the top. There are 7 suspension posts missing that hold the rope threaded through the keys together, and 6 felt insulators for the remaining posts are missing. It appears as though the resonators, front rail, and reinforcement stay have been painted gold, but I am not the original owner and it is 80 years old so I can't say for sure.
