Offering a real find! A vintage 1940's Western Electric 639B "Birdcage" ribbon microphone, with yoke, XLR adapter & desk stand. This is an elaborate, studio-quality microphone of legendary status, which includes both moving-coil dynamic and ribbon velocity elements. Western Electric first introduced these mics in the early 1940's and later Altec took them over, but THIS one is the original Western Electric release.

Rarely would you ever find one of these in better shape, 100% factory original internals, NO bent or warped ribs, and NO repairs ever done...this mic has been babied its entire life! A 6-position screwdriver actuated rear switch allows the two elements to be used separately or combined to produce a variety of audio profiles, and works on all settings. Audio sample provided upon request. (Remember, NEVER use phantom power which can damage this microphone!) This sale includes the 3 pin male XLR adapter, the rare mounting yoke and the Altec heavy iron base.

As microphones go, these 639's are quite large in scale, measuring about 5.5" high by 3.5" wide and 4.5" deep, and quite heavy too due to the large iron magnetic motor! By design, they were nicknamed "The Birdcage" for their visual design, and have been trusty staples in radio broadcasting, studio recording and film work throughout the 1940's and 50's. To this day they are still widely coveted by collectors, musicians and studio pros alike. ** Always safe secure packaging and fast fair shipping.**
