About This Listing

Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.

If you're a singer or drummer looking for something special with excellent sound quality and an old school style flair at a reasonable price then you might want to consider this classic, rarer Shure microphone. It comes with the cable, Atlas LO-2B on / off adapter as well as a new exterior pop filter and new Shure mic case shown.

You are looking at a 1970's / 80's era Shure Brothers SM56 dynamic cardioid microphone with uber strong output and warm, smooth tone. The signal strength on this old mic is 100%. Like new and absolutely...no issues. It's dual Z with the flip of a switch on the lower shock mount so you have a mic that can give more or less bass depending on your voice or what you prefer?

Pic # 2 shows this very model in an older 1980's Shure catalog I have with all of it's basic specs.

Pic # 3 shows this very model being used by Jim Morrison (lead singer of The Doors) during a live show. This was a go to mic for many main stream musicians of that time.

This SM56 has distinctive looks and was a radical new design for Shure Brothers when it was first introduced to the world in 1960 as the 546 model. The SM56 model was basically the Shure 546 model except that it had the dark green paint scheme for situations where light glare could cause problems. It's been said by many musicians that the sound quality of this particular microphone is the best bang for the buck. Perfect for vocals, broadcasting and drums.

This SM-56 is basically an SM-57 except that it had the lower shock mount and built in dual Z adjustable switch. It was far more expensive than the SM-57 model which is why you see so few of these around. It has a much more masculine look as well and personally one of my favorite Shure Brothers mic ever made. Excellent sound...excellent style.

This was the earlier American made SM56 series as the later model was built in Mexico when Shure started manufacturing many of their models down there around the late 80's.

As you can see in the pictures provided there are typical signs of wear. The original painted finish shows a few small paint chips and scuff marks but it's free of any fractures, dents or engravings. The black plastic fittings have no cracks or fractures either. Mic is 100% solid. No loose parts. The front screen shows no dents or tarnish. The mic has been thoroughly cleaned and gone over. The XLR pins were cleaned as well ensuring a better connection once the cable is attached.  Joint mechanism has plenty of resistance and it's adjustable.

The impedance switch cover is held on by two smaller screws. Simply turn the impedance switch under the cover to get the impedance you desire. You can get High Z or Low Z depending on your personal needs.

She certainly sounds even better than she looks. The inner foam screen is brand new and in excellent condition. The old one was falling apart. This really helps greatly reduce unwanted "pops" from breathing and singing too close to the mic and you'll notice the mic comes with the new exterior black foam pop filter that is specifically made for this and Shure 545 series microphones. It fits very snug and provides even better characteristics acoustically speaking. You don't need it but you'll probably prefer it with the pop filter on and you can really lean into the mic with minimal distortion. Looks great as well.

The Shure black vinyl mic pouch is included and a great place to store the mic to keep physical damage to a minimum. The mic pouch shows lite wear but works great including the zipper.

This mic takes a standard XLR cable which is included and it's appx 6 feet in length. It's soft pliable and free of damage. It has two high quality Switchcraft connectors. The end connector is a male 1/4 inch type that will work with most modern audio equipment.

The black Atlas LO-2B on / off adapter is included which will allow you to quickly release the mic from any stand you have so that you don't have to unscrew the mic which can take some time to do. If you need to walk around with your mic this will do the trick and it really comes in handy. It's a two piece adapter that comes loose by depressing the button. Super easy to use and very practical as it takes time to unscrew your mic from a stand without it and you can damage the threads easily on the mic every time you take it on and off. The adapter solves that problem.

The threads were damaged on this mic so the top part of the adapter has been installed using a tough resin so it won't break off or come loose.

Overall a very nice looking mic that's far above average for a 40 year old microphone. An easy 7 on a scale of 1 - 10. The real beauty of this mic is the sound it reproduces.

This is truly one of the better sounding older dynamic cardioid mics you can buy for the money...top notch! A great package deal all around.

MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IS NOT PART OF THIS SALE...USED FOR DISPLAY PURPOSES ONLY.

There are plenty of older stands in my Ebay store if one is needed for this mic.

If you want a high quality mic that very few collectors or musicians have then will do the trick. This rare mic will only go up in value as the years go by making it a wise investment.

As with all my vintage microphones for sale...

I can promise you will be happy with it for the price paid. If not...I have a no hassle return policy. The return shipping will be on you as I believe that's fair but the purchase price would be refunded. Simply return in the same nice condition...period. Check my rating. INTERNATIONAL BUYERS are welcome as well. BUYER MUST PAY WITHIN 24 HOURS or will lose rights to this item, unpaid item report will be filed and will be relisted.
