Acoustic Energy AE1 Classic 1987 - Matte Black

This listing includes one Pair of passive CLASSIC 1987 Acoustic Energy AE1 Classic speakers.

These are the original 1st issue version from 1987 as used famously by Nigel Godrich to record and mix Radiohead, Beck, Air, and every record that he's done since. Eventually other producers who worked with Nigel like Justin Meldal Johsen and Darrell Thorp started using these as well.

Listing includes : (2) AE1 Classic 1987 speakers, Original Acoustic Energy shipping box + Styrofoam, (2) Original AE1 classic cloth speaker grill covers. A binding post is broken on the cloth speaker grill covers, but that could easily be fixed.

These are serial #'s 01008425 and 01008426 respectively so they were sold as a matched pair and come with the ORIGINAL ACOUSTIC ENERGY BOX and styrofoam (!) which you will never find! This pair is super mint and I've babied these over the last 10 years of ownership.

They were recently gone through by renowned speaker repair shop GSS here in Los Angeles (See photography of receipt of service). GSS checked the ferrofluid in the tweeters (checked out fine! not dried up!) and reconed the woofers with period correct New Old Stock foam made for the AE1s. So these are basically like buying a brand new pair from 1987 with the original tweeters that they stopped making after the 1st run. The second edition of these and the subsequent 3rd edition both have different tweeters and Acoustic Energy now no longer makes these at all!

These things sound AMAZING and it's super easy to record and mix on these. They are fun to work on but still do the thing of pointing out issues in a mix. Balances come together quickly on these.

You likely won't find another pair as clean as these, recently serviced and with the original boxes.
