18" Jazz Archtop Levin - heavily reliced - perfect condition

This is a hand reliced 18" Levin jazz archtop, totally unique and in perfect working condition with no breaks or flaws.

The guitar started its life as a Levin 18DLX which I bought as raw material for my relicing plan. As far as I know, this model was only on the market for a short time and is not available anymore, making it basically the ONLY 18" jazz archtop that could be used for a 1 pickup conversion like this.

The guitar is fairly light-weight and has an exceptionally comfortable neck with a 43mm (1" 11/16) nut. It plays beautifully, sounds absolutely stunning and is an eye catcher, looking like a vintage guitar rather than a new shiny one.

The original Johnny Smith style floating pickup was replaced by a set-in Seymour Duncan Alnico 5 staple single coil. The new shiny varnishing was reliced so it now looks like a 60+ year old guitar - and one that never existed (but should have!).

It also got a nicer looking tailpiece that was reliced. The guitar has a volume and a tone control on the pickguard. Check out the video that we recorded live with the Levin. It has a noticeably wonderful, warm, yet defined sound and is no doubt a top jazz archtop comparable to a Gibson Super 400 (except a lot lighter which makes it fun to play). It comes with the original hard case in perfect condition.

The Swedish Levin factory was one of the best in Europe, and between 1904 and 1912 Levin received many awards, including the gold medal in Madrid for best guitar, as well as the exhibition's Grand Prix. In 1952, Jerome Hershman, a guitar distributor from America, noticed a Levin guitar at a trade show in Germany and convinced the Levin company to let him market their guitars in America.

Levin guitars where well known for their excellent sound, unique headstock design and reliable quality. In 1973, when Martin bought Levin, the facility became the European headquarters for Martin Guitars.
