About This Listing

1982 Fender "Dan Smith" Stratocaster Natural w/ OHSC

The 1982 Fender "Dan Smith" Stratocaster in Natural is a distinctive piece of Fender's rich history, marking a transitional period for the company. This guitar features a solid ash body, known for its bright, cutting tone and excellent sustain, paired with a maple neck and fretboard which contribute to its snappy sound and sleek playability. The Natural finish showcases the beautiful wood grain, making each guitar unique.

Notably, this model is a part of the "Dan Smith" era, named after the then-new Fender Director of Marketing, who aimed to restore Fender's reputation for quality following a period of perceived decline. These guitars are characterized by their smaller headstock, echoing pre-CBS era designs, and a four-bolt neck plate, a return to traditional Fender craftsmanship. The Stratocaster's three single-coil pickups offer the classic, versatile Strat sound - bright and articulate, perfect for everything from blues to rock to funk.

This particular 1982 model is often sought after by collectors and players alike for its blend of vintage charm and modern playability. It's a piece of Fender history that also serves as a reliable, high-quality instrument.  This guitar is in excellent condition for its age with the only visible wear and tear being some light surface scratching and a ding on the back of the neck around the fifth fret.  It comes with the original hardshell case.

    • Maple neck and fretboard

Product Overview
Fender underwent a lot of changes as a company, and some of those changes can be represented by the Fender Dan Smith Stratocaster. In the early '80s, Fender's marketing director Dan Smith decided to upgrade the Strat with a smaller headstock and pre-CBS era neck plate. Unfortunately, the guitar only survived production for three years. The Dan Smith name is just a moniker with which the instrument has been dubbed by collectors.

The "Dan Smith" Stratocaster is frequently confused for the later Standard Stratocaster which features a 2-knob control layout, top mounted jack, and Fender's short-lived Freeflyte tremolo system.
