Flame Maple Heritage H-535 Standard 2002 Antique Natural
She's a beauty. I spent 7 years dropping into guitar shops in every city I travelled to across the USA, Europe, and Australia looking for the right 335 and 10 years ago I found it on Denmark Street in London.
This is a Heritage H-535 from 2002. It's hard to capture the beauty of the quilted maple top under an aged nitro blonde finish; it's just stunning.
The pickups have been upgraded (before my time) with some handwound british PAFs, although I don't know the maker. It's been professionally set up middle of last year, the action is great and the neck is very straight.
I love the Heritage story. For those unfamiliar: these come out of the original Gibson factory in Kalamazoo, Michigan. When Gibson moved factories in the mid 80s, some of their long-term luthiers didn't want to move their families across the country so they banded together, bought the equipment and the factory, and kept on making guitars the way they thought Gibsons ought to be under the brand The Heritage. Employee-owned, the Heritage kept on with hand-made guitars and avoided the pitfalls of Gibson's corporate cost-cutting and offshoring. To me, a vintage Heritage is more appealing and usually better quality than a Gibson, and as a bonus you're not paying a few grand extra for the logo.
My days of striving to be Larry Carlton are over, and my days of striving to be a responsible dad are here. So... with love and nostalgia, it's time to say goodbye to this gorgeous 535. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have.
Comes with original hard case.
