About This Listing

The Norlin Era at Gibson produced some cool models and some that are downright iconic. The Les Paul Custom during the 1970s featured one of the most sought after Gibson electric guitars in the “Black Beauty”. 7-ply bound body, neck and headstock. The now Patent numbered humbucking pickups and Gibson electronics did not change much and offer that quintessential Gibson sound. The finish, tuning machines, and electronics on this guitar are in great shape for its age with very little to moderate play wear and minimal Gibson checking. The binding is in excellent condition and could pass for new if not for the yellowed aged look. The knobs, pickup rings, pickguard and toggle plastic components have been switched out to modern cream versions, however we have included the black witch hat knobs and toggle indicator with the purchase.  The case is a rare and in good condition rectangular ‘Norlin Era’ Gibson badged case the guitar weighs in at 9lbs 7oz.

Product Overview
While made during one of the company's most controversial eras when many players saw a sacrifice of quality for profit margins, the Gibson Les Paul Customs of the Norlin Era can be diamond-in-the-rough finds for players with a keen eye. In particular, if you're looking for iconic LP growl with the workhorse construction that made these guitars a legend in the first place, many guitarists and luthiers alike point to the late '70s/early '80s models as capstones of the era.
