A versatile baritone beauty that provides the best of a Tele and a Strat! This 26.5" scale Solo pairs the Johnny Hiland Six Shooter pickups with a one-piece ash body and master grade, roasted flame maple neck. Currently tuned to B, you get low tones that are never muddy with the spank of the single coil pickups and snap of that bolt-on body.
We'll start with the most obvious upgrade, the master grade roasted flamed maple neck and fretboard. Gorgeous wood with tons of chatoyance, and silky smooth with that oiled finish over the roasted maple. No truss rod cover, because why cover such beautiful wood with plastic? The body is one-piece swamp ash, and finished with the really unique select white wash stain in raw tone. This is a cool finish because you get splotched areas that are more opaqe over the translucent base. The opaque areas fill the grain, and the translucent base doesn't. Mother of pearl, white and silver accents adorn everything from the hardware, inlays, tuners and logo. White on silver is not a standard Kiesel logo option.
The Johnny Hiland Six Shooter pickups are incredibly versatile. Originally designed for Johnny by Electric City Pickups, the goal was to provide the Tele and Strat sounds that Johnny wasn't getting out of his EBMM Silhouette. The pickups come with a traditional 5 way switch and master volume / tone. But the trick is there's a mini-switch for the bridge pickup, allowing you to get bridge/neck and all 3 pickups on at once.
As Johnny himself described his signature pickups, "Billy Megela from Electric City Pickups designed these for me back in 2010 or '11. They're essentially based on a vintage Strat-style pickup. It's a set of three pickups—bridge, middle, and neck. But the bridge pickup, even though it's in a Strat form, has a base plate like a Tele, so it gives you a very snappy, twangy tone, and it's rated at 10.25k [DC resistance], so it's pretty hot. I'm a bridge pickup player, so that bridge pickup has to be spanky and twangy, man. The middle pickup, on the other hand, sounds very Strat-y, and the neck pickup has a real nice, round, bubbly, Jimi Hendrix-y kind of tone—but very warm and jazzy at the same time."
If you're a fan of Kiesel, you already know what you're getting here, and this guitar is mint! It has almost zero playing time as it was a case queen. Treat yourself!
