About This Listing

Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.

You are looking at an early Astatic DN-HZ from the 1940's with it's riveted aluminum Astatic badge and comes complete with it's original F-11 adapter shown. This was a very good quality "general purpose" Dynamic microphone and was an affordable alternative to some of the more sophisticated dynamic cardioid mics of that era. It just happens to make an excellent harp mic as well today with it's dirtier High Z tone.

A good choice for P.A work or any HAM radio set up.

Pic # 2 is from an old catalog I have showing the mics basic price and characteristics.

Pic # 3 is of Omar Bradley using this very model at a conference. He was the 5 star American General responsible for the Allied invasion of Europe during W.W II and arguably one of the most qualified American generals in American history.

After 70 + years of use this DN-HZ still has a great, strong usable signal and set at high impedance which means it basically lacks bass in it's tone. These mics have a classic "rockabilly" sound that many musicians and harmonica players are looking for today. It can be used for just about any live event.

This DN-HZ model had that industrial look that was very popular in the 1940's to 1950's before the design lost appeal and was eventually phased out. Far more practical in design and less flashy. The 2nd generation DN-HZ had a more elegant look to it.

This unit has been thoroughly tested and cleaned. As you can see it has very good original paint as well despite the lite physical wear. There are some scratches, tiny paint loss and a few spots of discoloration. The black screen is free of any holes or rips. There are no dents in the front grill. The chrome is very nice with zero pitting. Joint mechanism works nicely and allows for a smooth sliding adjustment. The Astatic badge looks excellent and completely legible.

The Astatic F-11 adapter is in great shape as well and is needed to operate the mic. Comes with the short 6 inch cable that has a modern Switchcraft male XLR end connector. This set up allows you yo use any longer XLR cable of choice as an extension and the short cable makes storing this mic much easier than normal. The cable is soft, pliable and free of any cracks. A very practical F-11 adapter.

It should be noted that I had to build this F-11 myself as the the DNHZ mic is wired differently than normal. Usually the # 3 pin is the positive wire but that was not the case with this mic so this mic will need to use the F-11 adapter to operate as it's wired correctly to the mics wiring diagram. Again, any XLR extension cable you use with the F-11 will work.

The Astatic F-11 adapter with cable will allow you to screw this mic onto any American microphone stand.

MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IS NOT INCLUDED...USED FOR DISPLAY PURPOSES ONLY.

I do have several desk stands in my Ebay store if one is needed.

This mic is 100% original and 100% complete.

As with all my vintage microphones for sale...

I can promise you will be happy with it for the price paid. If not...I have a no hassle return policy. The return shipping will be on you as I believe that's fair but the purchase price would be refunded. Simply return in the same nice condition...period. Check my rating. INTERNATIONAL BUYERS are welcome as well. BUYER MUST PAY WITHIN 24 HOURS or will lose rights to this item, unpaid item report will be filed and will be relisted.
