In our experience, Godin has long been the premier name in hybrid acoustic/electric instruments. Most of their products are geared towards guitar players but the A5 Ultra Fretless Bass is a total mind blower. Upright basses are coveted works of art that cost a fortune and it's tough to find any solid body that comes close to that sultry tone. With its two-part chambered body the A5 has a warm acoustic sound that will make your audience do a double take. Not only is it fitted with an ultra smooth Richlite fretboard, the A5 features two different ways to play: It has a Lace sensor pickup, and individual acoustic saddle transducers. Here is a quick breakdown of the range of control possibilities:

Mix jack only (both pickup and bridge transducer):

• Guitar volume slider becomes a blend of magnetic and bridge
• Side knob volume closest to player becomes a master volume for magnetic pickup and bridge

Both inputs:

• Guitar volume slider controls volume of bridge
• Side knob volume closest to player controls volume and tone of the magnetic pickup

By blending the Lace pickup and bridge transducers the A5 can sound warm, woody and acoustic, or spanky and funky like an electric bass.
