Vadim Custom Made Basses have been built in Canada by Vadim Rubtsov since around 1993. Born in Odessa, southern Ukraine, Rubtsov has been interested in and working towards building instruments since his early teens. Soon after arriving in Canada in 1989, he began constructing basses. Vadim Custom Made Basses exhibit very high quality craftsmanship, design and materials choices. His work came to public attention in the hands of Orin Isaacs, band leader of the Mike Bullard show, when he started using an early model. All Vadim's basses are unique. This bass is a 6 string with a midi interface and hardshell case. It was made in Toronto, Canada, where I came across it. I was finally able to bring it into the US after the pandemic. I have taken many photos to show its unique and beautiful design, and the EMG pickups. There is a volume control to the midi output for the individual string piezo bridge. This bass was built in 1995 for a personal friend of Vadim. The body construction is: neck through purple heart, body maple purple heart, finger board camatillo, EMG pickups, RMC piezzo pickups and midi converter. Camatillo, also known as Mexican Kingwood or Camatillo Rosewood, is a hard to find exotic tropical hardwood that is perfect for high end projects such as billiard cues, musical instrument, knives, etc. It has purplish heartwood and creamy white sapwood. It is very hard and dense and takes a high natural polish. This instrument sounds great and has a beautiful action making it "play like butter", a description that several musicians have used to describe it after playing it. Vadim is still making custom basses in Toronto. (Check out his website: VadimBasses . com ) Feel free to reach out if you want more information.

Vadim Rubtsov Custom Handmade Basses (vadimbasses . com)
My concept is to build handmade instruments that are one of a kind, as unique as the musicians. When performing, a musician communicates his personality, abilities, and energy to the listener. My instruments are created to enhance the best performance possible.
I started to build basses and guitars over twenty years ago, and I have not wavered from this path. Input from musicians has led me to believe that an instrument has to be a harmonious part of player’s body and soul. From my experience I also know that, in some cases, the physical attributes of the musician call for a specifically designed bass or guitar.
I do not have a line of production, shapes, or standard models. Every musician has an idea what his dream instrument needs to look and feel like. I incorporate their desires with my skills and knowledge. As a result, each musician gets a unique instrument, hand crafted by one person from the beginning to the end. Neck length and width, number of frets, shape of the body, electronics and other technical details are each musician's choice to make their ultimate guitar or bass.
Usually I start working on a new instrument by drawing it on paper. The customer is actively involved in this process communicating his ideas and concepts. The woodwork comes into play after all the details are discussed and agreed upon.
My passion was always shaping and working with exotic woods. The intricate pattern of the wood adds to the beauty, while density, weight, and level of humidity contributes to the characteristics of each instrument's sound. For the neck construction, I especially like to choose the hardest exotic woods such as wenge, bubinga, or purple heart. They are incredibly strong and allow me to build a thin but stable neck-through construction without dead notes, and with maximum sustain, brightness and good balance. For the body I often use a combination of exotic and domestic woods. -Vadim-
