Gibson Johnny Smith Double 1968

Welcome to The Gibson Custom Shop, 1968 Johnny Smith! Atascadero Jewelry and Loan staff have worked tirelessly on this beautiful guitar over the last 6 months and are proud to offer it for sale. When the guitar arrived at our shop it had suffered off-gassing from the original celluloid pickguard reacting to the original bake-lite knobs within a sealed case...in storage over a long period of time and unopened! The corrosion ate the pickguard, knobs, pickups, pickup covers, pickguard mount, electronics and stained the fretboard and fretwires. The case also suffered some internal damage as displayed in the pictures.

All of the afore mentioned issues were professionally addressed and upgraded, cleaned or replaced including: Brand new Lollar pickups and pickup covers, Fox Guitars original remanufactured celluloid pickguard and pickguard mounts, new 500k mini pots and wiring courtesy All Parts, new knobs, and a replacement 1/4" input jack and mount to replace the original 1/16" input jack and mount. We kept the original Gibson 3 position switch and note that the movement of this knob is stiff.

The guitar comes with all original removed, corroded parts, essentially everything we removed and replaced, including original 1/16" to 1/4" instrument cable and some original paperwork. As shown, the guitar comes with and ships in the original case with case cover. There are surface scratches in some areas of the body, including a few clearcoat cracks and a few small dings as noted in the pictures, otherwise the guitar is in excellent shape at 55 years old!
