About This Listing

Here we have a piece of historical significance from the shop of Doc Kauffman and Leo Fender, way back in the mid 1940s!

These steels pre-date Fender electric guitars by just a handful of years, before Leo bought Doc out of the business and began his prototyping of the first solidbody production guitar that changed the world.

We have had this one in the wings for a while.  It was in 100% original condition when it came in.  Three of the tuner buttons had crumbled, so we added new ones.  Tom Brantley rewound the pickup, something that is a standard need on these due to the design.  The pickup worked when it came in, but the material that holds the coil wire surrounding the strings had shrunk, making it impossible to re-string the instrument.

It sounds like one million bucks now!

The pots, knobs, tuners, finish - all is original and it even includes the original gig bag (the zipper is funky however).
