Looking for a guitar that looks and, more importantly, sounds different than the rest? Want one that was made with eco- and social-conscious awareness?
The Astola is my take on a double cutaway inspired by the Japanese guitars of the 1960s and one of my oldest designs. This one is by far my favorite because it also captures the slightly lo-fi sound of that era, too, with my hand-wound, custom pickups, but it feels and plays like a modern guitar Because, well, it was made properly! lol
Neck: 25.5"/16" zero-fret, 2-way truss neck made of maple/maple, just slightly chunky. Body: Reclaimed heart pine from a 100+ year old house demo with a reclaimed hard pallet wood top. Low VOC, low gloss finish.
The front pickup, the Penny Foil, is an early version of my now $2 Bill foil pickups, loosely modeled after the vintage goldfoils of the day. The back pickup is another surface mount with a neodymium magnet and slightly crisper, more modern sound.
NOTE: The neck in the demo video is different than the one on it now. I didn't like it so I replaced it with a maple/maple neck in a more traditional C shape. Pics are accurate, video is not.
Feel free to contact me to discuss making your own dream guitar. That's mostly what I do! The ones listed here are my dreams :) -Tim
