Drake Custom Medium scale Double Cut 2023 - Natural, Satin

This medium scale (32 inch) 4 string bass guitar, was finished this year and was part of a build off among the shop dwellers here at Drake Custom. Each builder was given a Spalted Maple top cut to a DC shape, a Curly Maple neck blank, a fret board, and a slab of Mahogany. It is a one-off, one of a kind bass.

NECK:

The neck is made from quarter sawn figured hard Maple, with a Ebony fret board. 20 vintage size stainless steel frets and Spalted Maple block inlays. The neck has a dual action truss rod and carbon fiber bars inside. The peghead is laminated with Spalted Maple fore and curly Maple aft. The neck is a deep inset style where the heel runs all of the way into the neck pickup. There is a brass stop inside the pocket to keep the neck from migrating into the body. A hard wax oil finish has been applied to the back of the neck. The peghead face is satin urethane.

BODY:

The body is a chambered slab of old growth Mahogany, topped with a contour carved Spalted Maple top. A black accent line between the layers is present. This bass is a string through only.

HARDWARE:

The hardware is Hipshot brand D style bridge with a 19mm spacing. Brass tray and chrome saddles for the bridge. The tuners are chrome plated. Dunlop strap buttons (strap hardware included) are dual use so a regular strap can also be used.

ELECTRONICS:

The guts of this bass is the TV Jones Thunder Blades with radius magnet bars that match the fret board radius. They are high output and very punchy. Probably some of the best pups for finger style playing. Very responsive to attack. The controls are Volume, Volume, Tone with a .047 cap. CTS pots are 250K.

WEIGHTS AND MEASURES:

Total instrument weight is 8.0lbs. Nut is 1.5" Bridge spacing is 19mm Fret board radius and magnet bar radius is 12".  Scale is a 32" medium scale. Neck carve is a deep C style. This bass balances about like a Gibson SG. This bass is equipped with Medium scale Tomastik Enfeld strings at this time. It also has been strung with Ernie Ball brand medium scale strings. Does not like DAddario mediums due to length of active portion of string.
