Check out the last pic and tell me I don't work on these! Lol.
This actually took me a few weeks!
my apologies to the buyer who wanted a changer. While the player is awesome, when restored, all bearings cleaned and properly seated, the changer is a real dog! Even with the annoyingly fallible steurpimpel, the thing would not restore. It doesn't help that the player is very BUILT, while the changer is barely hanging onto the linkage, by gimpy springs and GRAVITY, apparently. It was by far the most frustrating piece o' crap I ever wasted this much time on with no return.
In an effort to avoid patented mechanics, they over/under-engineered the player mech as only could be done by DUAL, or possibly his BROTHER at P/E... Everything has been addressed with new belt and everything lubricated. And if I ever see a steuerpimpel again it'll be too soon!! The video shows the changer working. But this was only a short period of time. The plastic sleeve inside the thing was IN TACT. POSSIBLY, someone tried to fix it and left a crucial part our. That's why it's being sold as-is. But the good news is with the work I did, this legendary weak and often 2x speed motor, is running like a top, and yes, with a heavy phone on the platter, it managed to turn in a near perfect 33.33 wow and flutter performance, and with admirable motor noise specs, courtesy of new silicon motor mounts and a good set up, and rebuild of the speed adjustment area. (I used a thick standard belt, vs the one with the teeth, as there's too much slop and movement in that original design). If you've done the wow and flutter test, you'll know the evasive 33.33 is crazy hard to get. Most players won't tweak that last digit enough to get it nailed down. But in my zeal to make the changer work, I got the player adjusted like no other, from the motor mounts, to the perfect compliment of caps, to the contacts, bearings... you'll notice the speed fluctuates in the test results, but the reality is that the consistency tells the story, that both of those numbers fell equadistant with 33.33 in the middle... meaning that on a level surface, with a light tracking cartridge, you'll see similar numbers yourself.
Also, notice the slightly fugly plastic plinth is now a real walnut veneered, hand rubbed class act, as THIS turntable was indeed one of their best and this one rocks. Comes with high quality nude elliptical diamond stylus and high end cart from AT... you won't be disappointed !
