Reviews:
Recording Engineer Producer (Bill Stunt - CBC recording engineer) *
"You'll pay a little more than you would for some DIs but you will have long forgotten the extra bucks when your basking in the glow of your glorious new recordings"
Comparison of Ultra DI with Rupert Neve DI (Peter Alves - Producer)
Both the RNDI and the ORFORD sound very similar, but there are differences.
The ORFORD sounds slightly “cleaner”, more “defined”, perhaps less “muddy” than the RNDI but these differences are very subtle.
The ORFORD’s output level is appreciably higher than the RNDI; despite the fact that I did not change the input level of the Focusrite Pre, the signal never once clipped while recording.
* Reviews of OEM'd version of the Orford Audio DI circuit.

I have 4 of them and use them all the time. Best DI I have ever used.
FEATURES
Musicality – you have never heard an instrument sound this good through a direct box. Especially impressive on passive Bass guitars.
Transparency – the Orford Classic DI reveals the sound of the instrument like no other.
Input/amplifier ground is completely isolated from console ground (no need for ground lift switch - never any ground loops).
Extremely high impedance input: virtually no load on the instrument.
Discrete component, minimalist, transformerless, Class A design with FET and 1960s germanium transistors.
48 Volt Phantom powered (no battery required)
INTERFACE
Instrument Input: ¼” Neutrik TS jack
Unbalanced output to amp: ¼” Neutrik TS jack
Mini toggle switch: 12 dB input Pad - use for high level input/some active pickups
Balanced audio output to console: XLR (48V phantom in)
MISCELLANEOUS
This DI has the same amazing sound as the Orford Audio Ultra DI (also available on Reverb.com).
The DI was manufactured and designed (by hand and brain …) in Canada.
Each DI is subject to lengthy burn-in period - for maximum reliability
One year warranty (for manufacturer defects).
With most active DIs, usage of the amplifier output while connected to a console may cause a ground loop and hum. This DI never has that problem because input & amplifier ground is completely isolated from the console ground (XLR pin 1). No need for a ground-lift switch.
Some instruments with active pickups have very high output level. In this case the pad should be enabled or the instrument level should be reduced for maximum clarity.
Laser engraved epoxy paint.
