This is a solid and great playing 70’s classical, made in Japan at the peak of the Matsumoku factory!
Univox is more known for their buzzsaw electric punk guitars, but they have always had a lesser known sensitive side with their acoustics like the 16 year old punk kid with facial tattoos who actually has a 4.5 GPA and is captain of speech and debate. Similar to how Greg Graffin is not only the politically voiced frontperson for Bad Religion but also a professor of evolutionary biology, Univox can surprise you with it’s dualistic existence. The neighbors all brought their kids inside when Univox was skating in the cul-de-sac, but they felt like idiots when they later found out he was flown to Sweden to give a talk with Dolph Lundrgren at the Royal Institute of Technology. Like it or not, some people just really do have the whole package, and so does Univox.
As an instrument, I can’t think of a way this one could be any better. It plays and sounds awesome, action is low and comfortable, the condition is shockingly clean and beautiful, it stays in tune great, it sounds really great and has a cool and unique tone, it’s got the whole package. It has somewhat of a utilitarian appearance and feel like a first generation Honda, but those Hondas are super collectible now! It plays beautifully with a featherlight touch and super low action, it has a really great feel, I can't emphasize that enough!
It's been played and has some vibey battle scars, but all the best instruments have. Structurally it's super healthy, and it has decades ahead of it before it will need any work. There's some nicks and scratches here and there, and one on the back of the neck in the first position, but this is a great and rugged guitar with all the vibes that you can take camping or traveling so you can have an inspiring instrument that you won't have to worry about too much.
