I started a new post-Covid band on bass, and got 'promoted' over to guitar, lap, harp, and mando. That's all good, but the small stages we play on don't really have room to justify this setup for the little bit of lap I play, poorly. Since I tune the lap to an open D, I can't really do anything on the lap I'm not already doing on my bottleneck rig.
I can't do this beautiful instrument justice, and hate to see it sit. Get a custom build immediately, vs. some foreign junk or a long wait and more money for a luthier built heirloom instrument like this.
Shad Peters builds a quality, sturdy instrument. This is a beautiful oil finish walnut. It took a couple months, and I got the exact pickup configuration I've had on other 6 strings. Very versatile:
P Rail:
In the past, if you wanted humbucker tone, P90 tone, and Strat tone, you would have needed three different guitars. But now, the P-Rails humbucker delivers all three sounds in a pickup that is a drop-in replacement for any standard-sized humbucker slot. Using any 3-way (on-off-on) mini-switch, each unique hybrid humbucker can be split to give you a super fat, authentic vintage P90, or be split to the Rail coil for a classic Strat-like tone.
With both coils on, you get a big-sounding humbucker that packs a nice full punch. The neck version is wound RWRP so that, you can use both P90s or both Rails together and achieve hum-canceling operation. Hand built in Santa Barbara, CA, each P-Rails versatile humbucker pickup uses a pair of alnico 5 bar magnets, comes with a 4-conductor lead wire to allow for all the wiring options, and is vacuum wax potted for squeal free operation. The bridge position P-Rails is available in either standard humbucker or Trembucker spacing.
This pickup goes from clean like a steel to warm and moany to raunchy hot. Very easy with the Triple Shot:
Triple Shot:
The Triple Shot switching mounting ring is amazing for a variety of reasons. You get tons of tonal variety from the four different sounds it gives you (splitting to either coil, series operation, and parallel operation). You are able to easily switch between the various sounds with just the flip of your finger. No more reaching for pushpulls; there are two small slider switches at the low E-string edge of the ring for easy access. And, the Triple Shot is incredibly easy to hook up.
No more fumbling with pushpull or mini-toggle connections—the Triple Shots color-code labeled solder pads are a snap to solder up. Imagine having coil splits on your 335 without having to pull the harness, and struggle to get the pots back in the right place One ring for each pickup means four sounds per humbucker. The combinations are almost endless.
So, to be clear, you have a P90 and a single coil rail pickup together in a Humbucker platform. The micro switch sliders in the mounting ring switch back and forth between those 2 options, or bring the 2 single coils together as either a series or parallel humbucker.
I also had Shad install a 500k pot.
Don't mess around or spend way too much for a lap steel case; this fits nicely in my G&L gig bag for a regular guitar. I think it is a little longer than most lap steels.
Note - I'm off the grid 9/1 - 11 or so - can ship right up to then and immediately upon return - Thanks!
