About This Listing

An excellent example of the rare and superb TASCAM 58 half inch open reel 8 track recorder. First manufactured in 1983, the TASCAM 58 and 58-OB were TASCAM's first +4dB multitrack recorders and were specifically targeted at serious production professionals.

This unit was in very good condition when it came to us, and has been refurbished by the redoubtable Wiktor Amps. All functions tested and passed, and the unit is expected to reliably perform at or exceeding original factory spec. Please see photos, and complete service details below.

Ships worldwide, or local pickup can be arranged. The package will be large, heavy, and delicate, so shipping may be a significant added expense. Estimated cost of international shipping is based on shipping to Australia, the furthest distance from my location. Please inquire for an estimate to your specific location outside of the USA.

Notes from the technician:

Unit has received a thorough service including complete reflow of all solder points on the main audio interconnect board including the RCA jacks (150+ points). Channel cards also were reflowed at connector point as well as all controls and switches cleaned. Unit calibrated for 320nW record IEC EQ. It has been biased for Quantegy 456 tape, 0dB on the meters corresponds to -10dBV (.33V) making it ideal for a prosumer studio environment. Proper head alignment was performed, heads show little wear and have good life left (85%+). Unit has excellent record performance and exceeds specified tolerances in the service manual.
