This dilruba has a storied past. I ordered it, custom hand made for me, directly from Calcutta, India when I retired from teaching music in 2010. I cost me $1,500 USD and took two years to finally receive it because the broker died and another family member had to complete the transaction. When I received it, the instrument's string bracket, fitted with fifteen friction pegs, was weak and couldn't hold the pull; of the sympathetic strings. I employed Emile Cos, a luthier in Santa Rosa, to make me a solid maple sympathetic string bracket with machine tuners from StewMac parts. Emile also replaced the Jawari string friction pegs with viola pegs and fitted them perfectly. A bridge out of Honduran mohagany was also carved. A new set of strings have been installed. The dilruba now resonates and sings as it should. This is the instrument that George Harrison played on Within You Without You. I've enjoyed this instrument, but it's time to pass it on to someone who will lovingly curate it. A bow and hard shell case is also included as well as a tuning chart.
