This is a 50s era Kay K6835 with a spruce top and maple laminate construction. The badge on it is for the Dynamic brand, which was a brand of United Guitars, but this is not a United Guitar built instrument- it was most definitely built by Kay. It has dings, scratches and crazed patina all over it from a long life but is structurally very solid, needed no body repairs, and the finish is quite nice for it’s age- somebody took good care of this guitar.
The poplar neck with rosewood fretboard (25-3/4” scale) came off easily and I gave it a fresh 12” radius and New Jescar 47104 frets, then re-set it perfectly. It has the original internal steel trussrod, an original 1-11/16” bone nut, new Gotoh vintage-style tuners matched to my compensated aluminum lightening bridge and original trapeze. It has a large C carve with low electric guitar-like action and it plays very easily.
I installed one of my hand wound Type13SC gold foil pickups that works great with this big body giving it a clean, rich and full sound.
These guitars were designed for sitting around and strumming in a different era a long time ago that had different musical demands. This is a beautiful guitar professionally rebuilt that you can plug in and strum right now- it plays great and will continue to play great for a long time.
