Up for sale is this vintage 1930's Kay Kraft Venetian Style C acoustic archtop guitar project. This one will require work to be playable and is being sold "AS IS" and "AS FOUND".
This instrument is a fairly nice example of a very, very rare model. We can honestly say that this is the first Style 3 Venetian that we have ever seen in person.
The body shows heavy wear and Three plugged holes (two on the top and one on the side, all are pictured). The top is sinking a bit, which is common on these. There are a few small pieces of the original checker binding that are missing. The Indian Rosewood sides and back are very attractive. The instrument looks to be all original, down to the bridge and the original closed back Grover friction keys.
The neck is in nice condition, but does show wear. It is straight, but does have some unlevel fretwork so we would expect it to need fretwork to be 100%. The neck angle is off and will need to be corrected as the action is high and unplayable as it currently sits. The original inlay work is absolutely beautiful. There are some small superficial cracks coming off of the tuner screws on the back of the headstock.
Overall, a cool project for someone and it shouldn't last long. Kay got it right with the Venetians and they're about as cool as it gets! Do not miss out on this one, because it will be a long time before you spot another Style 3. If this one doesn't sell quick, it may go off to our luthier and enter my personal collection.
No case or gig bag is included, but it will be well-packed for safe shipping.
