Over two-and-a-half years in development, Paul Reed Smith and John Mayer have created a double-cutaway electric that is as close as possible to the final word in a bolt-on neck, three pickup guitar. If you love vintage feel and tone as much as we do, with the fit and finish for which PRS in known, this is a guitar that may easily become your day-to-day player.

This version of the Silver Sky adds a maple fingerboard to the Mayer signature guitar, something many customers have asked for. Maple tends to lend a little more “snap” to the tonal palette and, along with the classically comfortable neck profile, adds a little ‘50s vintage vibe to the early ’60s guitars that were the inspiration for this signature instrument.

Both PRS and Mayer hold that the pickups are a major part of the design, and these signature single-coils are full and warm with a smooth high-end that’s never strays into “ice-pick” territory. This is the best “Stratty” sounding S style axe we’ve EVER heard!

The tremolo bridge and tuners carry several PRS-developed designs, like a locking version of the traditional closed-back tuner and Gen III knife-edge screws on the steel plate vibrato. We’ve found that these updates add a lot to your tuning stability while retaining that quintessential vintage feel.
