About This Listing

1987 Gibson Les Paul Custom Black Beauty

This was a really good year for Les Pauls. Gibson had transitioned away from Norlin era practices, but were still using Tim Shaw pickups. This is a nice example of a Custom. The neck is straight. Ebony fretboard is in good shape. Truss rod turns easily. The frets are in very good shape with plenty of life left. Binding has some shrinkage and finish cracking. The Tim Shaw humbuckers both read 7.6k and sound fantastic. Tuners function properly. The finish is in good shape, with minor buckle rash, scratching on the back of the neck, and minor nicks all over the guitar. The gold hardware is in decent shape with plenty of patina. Two of the knobs have some interior cracks, but are fully functional. There is another hole for the pickguard bracket. Overall, this guitar is in really good original condition, especially for its age. It plays and sounds great. This is one of the good ones.
