About This Listing

Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.

You are looking at a unique microphone from the mid 1940's to late 1950's made by Electro Voice. The massive 726 Cardyne I mic was E.V's answer to the very popular and extremely large Shure Brothers 55 Fatboy microphone of that time. The 726 Cardyne I also utilized a dynamic element and was covered from head to toe in polished chrome with bold, deco lines that deserve attention. It comes with the short offset 3 pin cable in which to operate this mic.

Pic # 2 is from an old 1946 E.V catalog showing this very model and it's basic characteristics.

This 726 has been thoroughly tested and cleaned. The mic produces a strong usable signal and can be used for any live event but it must be noted that this mic only works on high impedance as the impedance switch on the rear of the mic is defective and does not work on the low impedance setting.

These older mics have a classic "rockabilly" sound to them with a bit more treble. Dirtier in nature. If that's what you are wanting in your recordings and live event...this mic will do the trick.

The 726 is a cardioid uni-directional microphone meaning that it only picks up noise that is directly in front of it cancelling out other unwanted noises off to the side or behind it giving it ideal use for events where background noise can often be a problem.

The chrome body shows a bit of lite wear but is in far above average condition. I try to get the closest shots possible but sometimes it makes the microphone look worse than when you actually see it in person. I'd give it a very conservative 7 + on a scale of 1 - 10. Others might judge it even higher.

The black screens in the front and rear are free of any rips or holes and has a nice dark even color. The joint mechanism offers plenty of firm resistance to keep this heavy microphone at just the right angle needed. This classic microphone is 100% complete. The threads for both the stand and cable are perfect. This 726 is absolutely free of any dents, fractures or breaks. The chrome has an incredible luster and shows typical small scuffs, fine pitting and scratches.

The chrome bodies do not polish out. Once a scratch or engraving is on the chrome...it's there forever. The chrome finish is very thin on a magnesium body. Too many sellers on Ebay claim that these mics will polish up with a little elbow grease...not true.

The mic has a typical offset 3 pin connector usually associated with early E.V microphones. The older cables can be difficult to locate but the one provided works excellent for this mic. It's appx 3 feet in length and comes with a quality male Switchcraft XLR end connector that can just be left on the mic. Then simply attach a longer XLR cable of choice that you have for your audio equipment and you are in business. These short cables / adapters are so much more practical.

Also, you'll need to attach a female XLR to male 1/4 inch extension cable to make this mic work. The cable on the mic is not balance so a male 1/4 inch extension cable is a must.

The mic is tight and unlike most 726 mics that have a loose element inside...this one is well secured and won't give you any unwanted feedback.

The ON / OFF switch slides smooth and works without issue.

I would highly suggest using a heavy cast iron desk or floor stand because of the weight of this microphone. If you need an excellent working 726 which can be hard to come by these days...this is your mic.

MICROPHONE STAND IS NOT PART OF THIS SALE...USED FOR DISPLAY PURPOSES ONLY.

As with all my vintage microphones...

I can promise you will be happy with it for the price paid. If not...I have a no hassle return policy. The shipping will be on you as I believe that's fair but the purchase price would be refunded. Simply return in the same nice condition...period. Check my rating. INTERNATIONAL BUYERS are welcome as well. Buyer must pay within 24 hours or an unpaid case will be opened and item relisted. Domestic buyer will get priority shipping.

If you have any questions feel free to ask and...thanks for looking.
