Fully Restored Sherwood S8000 IV 36WPC Stereo FM/MPX Receiver - Famously Good Sherwood Performance A

For sale is a fully restored Sherwood S8000IV stereo tube FM MPX receiver in great overall shape. This design is rated very conservatively at 36WPC into 4/8/16 Ohms but don't let the humble power rating fool you, this amp puts out plenty of power - enough to wake up the neighbors! The quality of the sound beautiful with crystal clear highs, great balance throughout the sound spectrum and huge bass! An incredible performer in a small package!

Please study the pics carefully for cosmetics. The face and knobs cleaned up well overall - one knob was missing it's knob bright which we replaced and the volume knob has the typical paint wear that the Sherwood IV series commonly has. The chassis, underside and case are in nice, clean shape.

For the electronic restoration, the amp had every electrolytic changed out to modern high quality, high temp caps. Then the entire power supply was rebuilt from the ground up including adding a bias measurement point to set the bias optimally. A thermistor was also added to slow start the amp - this is good for the power switch and power transformer. All four 7868 output tubes match perfectly and test like NOS on our TV-7. All sockets were cleaned/tensioned and all of the 6EU7 preamp/phase inverter are still strong testing and sound wonderful (some are changed to GE, others are original Telefunken). Every feature and function works flawlessly and as stated above, the amp is just an amazing performer. We have ran it for 10-12 hours at a time without issue. It's truly plug and play ready to go!

The FM tuner was also rebuilt with all failure prone parts replaced and a full FM and MPX alignment was performed. It required minimal touch up and we are betting the service stickers on this unit were to have the FM aligned many years ago. It was darn near spot on and sounds incredible - rivaling the quality of many other audiophile quality sources!

The receiver will be packaged and shipped carefully so that it arrives as it left here!
