1958 Gibson EB6 6 String Bass Prototype– Serial #RB02501. As Featured in Vintage Guitar Magazine September 2011. Hank took delivery of this guitar in late 1958. The guitar has several features that are unique from the production model, most notable being this was the only EB6 6 string bass to have two PAF pickups. The body was made from a ES-345 body (hence the varitone plug) and features a large one piece mahogany neck. Hank used this guitar most famously on the Elvis records “I Got Stung”, “Stuck On You,” and “Fame and Fortune.” Signed by Hank and comes with a notarized COA signed by Hank Garland. Condition: The guitar is in fantastic cosmetic condition showing only the slightest amount of finish checking with only a few minor chips/scratches that are documented in the photos (mostly the headstock and one area on the back of the neck). Like most guitars of the time the Kluson tuner buttons are showing shrinkage and rot, but can be easily swapped out for newer tuners or the buttons themselves could be replaced. The plastic parts are in great overall condition, with the nickel metal parts showing slight patina. Both volume controls are missing their reflective "Volume" top. General: Like Hank's other guitars listed this guitar has been primarily kept in a climate controlled storage unit since Hank's accident in '61. The guitar was only occasionally brought out to show visitors and remains in the same condition as Hank left it in 1961. The strings currently on the guitar are the original strings that came on the guitar from the Gibson factory. Comes with a 60's Artistic Covers vinyl gig bag. Delivery:Local pickup only.
