When a banjo player is ready for the volume and cutting power needed to hold a place in a live, multi-instrumental setting, the Deering Goodtime Special takes the approachable Goodtime platform and gives it a considerably stronger voice. At the heart of the design is Deering's patented Goodtime Special steel tone ring, developed to produce a crisp, bright, sparkling response with greater richness and projection than a basic Goodtime configuration.

Built in Spring Valley, California, the Goodtime Special combines a rock maple neck with a three-ply violin-grade maple rim and a full resonator, creating a traditional five-string platform particularly well suited to bluegrass playing. Its resonator and steel tone ring help focus the banjo's energy outward, giving rolls, melodic passages, and rhythmic backup the presence to remain distinct alongside other acoustic instruments. The comfortable D-shaped neck, satin finish, and geared tuners keep the playing experience straightforward and familiar, while the 26.25" scale provides a full-size banjo feel.
