The Halo Mounting System gives you more control over how your toms respond. Its lateral suspension design sits beneath the lug line, isolating the shell while avoiding the extra stiffness associated with under-hoop mounting systems. This allows each tom to resonate more freely for an open, natural sound. You can then fine-tune that response using the mount's adjustment knob. Tighten it fully to dampen shell resonance and shorten the decay, or loosen it for a wider, more open tone. In the studio, this gives you a practical way to shape your drum sound before reaching for processing or plug-ins.

Full maple and walnut tone

Maple and walnut are combined across the Saturn Evolution's hybrid shells, giving you a full, rounded foundation alongside a bright and versatile open character. The construction also incorporates Mapex's SONIClear Attenuation System and Design Lab features. SONIClear bearing edges are tailored to the kit, with 45-degree edges on the rack and floor toms and a 60-degree edge on the bass drum. Sonic Saver hoops complete the tom setup. Together, these features give you a shell pack designed around resonance and tonal flexibility, whether you're setting up for recording, rehearsals, or live playing.

Balanced response across every drum

Rather than using identical construction throughout the kit, Mapex employs a chamber-specific approach. Shell plies become progressively thicker as drum diameter increases, while depths graduate in half-inch increments and bearing-edge designs change to suit the different drum sizes. The 10-inch tom uses a 7.85mm nine-ply shell, the 12-inch and 16-inch drums use 8.55mm nine-ply shells, and the bass drum increases to 9.25mm. This carefully varied construction helps the 10 x 7-inch and 12 x 8-inch rack toms, 16 x 14-inch floor tom, and 22 x 16-inch bass drum work together as a balanced kit.

Keep the shells resonating freely

The Natural Satin SAS finish is applied with extremely low mass, allowing the maple/walnut shells to vibrate with less added weight. That matters because thicker finishes can add mass and reduce sustain. Here, the finish is designed to retain more of the shell's natural resonance while also bringing out the visual character of the wood. Airflow is considered too, with two vent holes fitted to the rack and floor toms and four on the bass drum. The floor tom also uses SAS Static 90-degree legs with Sonic Pedestal feet, complementing the kit's wider focus on controlled, unrestricted resonance.
