​Overview

The Torso Electronics S-4 is a portable sound design exploration machine and standalone sculpting sampler that merges tape-inspired workflows with modern real-time audio processing. It is designed to capture, bend, mold, and transform sound in parallel.

​Audio Engine & Processing

The S-4 features four parallel stereo audio tracks processing in 24-bit/48kHz. Each track features a distinct 5-part signal chain:

​Material: Functions as a tape machine and sampler. It supports real-time recording, overdubbing, sound-on-sound looping, and varispeed recording using live input or stored audio.

​Granular: A live granular processor for time-warping, pitch-shifting algorithms, and creating shifting textures or rhythmic glitches.

​Filter: A 48-band resonator filter bank with morphing capabilities, covering classic low-pass, high-pass, and band-pass filtering, as well as tuned, resonant textures.

​Color: An effects section for adding character, featuring dual-band distortion, bit-crushing, a compressor, and noise generation.

​Space: A stereo reverb and delay section featuring pitch-shifting, shimmer, and a freeze function to lock moments in place during a performance.

​Modulation & Performance

​Modulators: 20 modulators per device (4 freely assignable per track) that can function as complex LFOs, random sources, generative sequencers, or ADSR envelopes.

​Mixer Section: Master section featuring a 4-channel mixer, equipped with a DJ-style low-pass/high-pass filter per channel and a summing compressor.

​Scenes & Macros: Stores up to 128 parameter snapshots (Scenes) for instant recall. Features global macro controls for shaping multiple parameters at once.
