This pedal has been hand-built by me, a retired electronics technician with over 50 years of repairing and upgrading basses and all sort of amplification equipment. Since 2019, I have been building and selling a growing variety of bass preamps, onboard and pedal variety.
A few years ago a guy who had ADHD and was moving on from building pedals sold me a bunch of parts, enclosures, and circuit boards. As time permits, mostly for fun and definitely not for profit, I have been building the more interesting of these circuits and selling them at my cost.
My main intention is to build high quality pedals that are excellent representatives of other famous, and usually rare or expensive pedals. This is one of those.
This pedal is based on the DOD 230 which goes for around $90 used. According to the Lectric-FX site, the STFU! (Shut the funk up!) is a simple optical noise gate. The only change to the original circuit is a level trimmer added to the output to match up with your bypass signal to the open gate.
I did use this pedal on my own pedalboard for a while, but I have since replaced all my individual pedals with a multi-effects unit so I no longer need this one. That is why I have designated it as GOOD, mostly for the various scratches in the flat black paint I used to cover the basic aluminum 1590B enclosure. It also explains the Velcro on the bottom.
As you can no doubt tell from the pictures, I am much better at building circuits than I am at producing fancy enclosures. Since there is only a single knob used to control the gate, I didn't see much point in labeling it.
My cost in building this came to around $30 for the parts, with no charge at all figured in for labor cost.
I built this using a stomp switch, with a cool switch cover, that will turn the unit on/off, but it is meant to me on all the time. It employs TRUE BYPASS so you can easily remove the pedal from your signal chain without having to physically remove it from your pedalboard, although I am not sure why you would want to do that.
This pedal is being sold as-is, so please ask any questions before purchasing. It does work, so you are totally covered if it shows up DOA or was damaged in shipping.
