The Marantz 1180DC (1977–1980), with original walnut case, is a 90 WPC Japanese integrated with a brushed aluminum face, slider tone controls, variable Contour (loudness), dual phono, pre-out/main-in jumpers, and a DC/AC coupling switch. This beautiful beast was professionally serviced (Like all of my vintage equipment), cleaned and recapped by SpaceBabyAudio in Austin Texas. (See Pictures). Power and drive: rated 90 W into 8 Ω / 113 W into 4 Ω, 0.03% THD. Bench reports often show it exceeding the rating before clip. Sound: wide, slightly holographic stage, strong bass authority, “air.” Features people actually use: peak LEDs over the sliders, variable Contour, three-band sliders with turnover switches and tone defeat, two speaker pairs, two tape loops. HiFi Engine user line: “I have yet to hear a mass-produced amplifier that sounds better than this Marantz 1180.” That is typical of the tone on AudioKarma.
