Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.
You are looking at a unique older and rarer 1970's era AKG model D160E1 model dynamic omni-directional microphone with great sound characteristics set at 200 OHMS (Low Z) and it comes with an original mic clip, mic case in which to store and new Auray brand exterior black foam pop filter. This mic is an all metal design that is rugged and has an elegant design.
I have to be honest that I don't have a lot of experience with this model of mic as it's the very first I have come across. Apparently this in newer D160E1 as I only have the data sheet from the D160E. I don't know the difference between the two so if anybody has any info in which they can enlighten me on it would be greatly appreciated.
Pic # 2 & 3 is from the D160E data sheet I have that shows some of the mic characteristics. I can say that the mic works very well and one of the cleanest examples you'll find.
I'm not sure how many years AKG actually sold the mic but it seems to have been around 10 to 15 years starting in the 1970's. It's very lite weight. Just 5 1/2 inches long X 3/4 inches wide and easy to hold for prolonged periods of time.
Again, it's omni-directional in nature and the tone is bright and lovely. Though it's set at 200 OHMS it's not bass heavy. This mic sounds virtually identical to the E.V 635A model mic. if you like that model then you're going to love the D160E1. This would be ideal for singing and broadcasting. A high quality AKG product.
As you can see there is virtually no signs of wear on the champagne gold finish of this mic and the the front screen has zero indentations, odors or tarnish. The AKG label is perfect and completely legible. The XLR pins were cleaned as well ensuring a perfect signal once a cable is attached. Please let the detailed photos be your guide.
Overall I would rate this mic a perfect 10 on a scale of 1 - 10 in the cosmetic department.
The mic comes with a beautiful original black plastic and metal mic clip that works very well for this mic and will screw onto any mic stand you have. It gives a wide range of tilt and grips the mic firmly. It shows no wear.
The original black vinyl mic case is included. The case shows very lite signs of wear but the inner foam padding is still in excellent shape keep the mic safe and snug. The locking mechanism works great as well. You'll just need a cable to operate the mic.
The new Auray brand exterior pop filter fits the mic like a glove and compliments the look as well. This will give you maximum performance when performing live and you can really lean into the mic. It will certainly come in handy.
I don't know when I'll ever come across another one of these so if you need the best example out there...this is your mic.
