beautiful pre-war Oskar C. Meinel violin dated 1938 and made in Markneukirchen, Germany. The original interior label identifies the instrument as an Oskar C. Meinel reproduction of an Antonius Stradivarius model.
This is a particularly attractive example featuring a beautifully figured two-piece flamed maple back, highly figured maple ribs and neck, spruce top, ebony fingerboard and fittings, and a rich amber-brown varnish that displays the wood exceptionally well.
Oskar C. Meinel instruments from this period are associated with the respected Ernst Heinrich Roth workshop tradition in Markneukirchen and are considerably different from the inexpensive mass-produced “Stradivarius copy” violins commonly encountered.
