Over the past few decades, Schecter has established itself as one of the most interesting brands for guitarists looking for instruments that are modern, high-performance and exceptionally well equipped. While the brand is now capable of producing truly high-end instruments, it also manages to bring its expertise to more accessible ranges without compromising on the essentials. This Solo-II Standard is a perfect example, offering an impressively high level of equipment and personality for its price point.
And you only have to look at it to understand that this guitar is anything but discreet! The Ocean Blue Burst Burl finish is simply spectacular. The figured burl top, with its incredibly rich and irregular grain, is beautifully enhanced by the deep blue burst, giving each instrument a truly unique personality. The result is particularly striking, with an almost three-dimensional appearance that immediately evokes guitars from much higher price ranges. Combined with the black hardware, this finish gives the Solo-II an outstanding visual presence.
Behind this particularly successful look, Schecter has certainly not cut corners when it comes to the specifications. The mahogany body provides a full, generous tonal foundation, while the roasted maple neck with its Thin C profile offers a modern, comfortable and fast-playing feel. The 14-inch-radius rosewood fingerboard and 22 Jumbo frets complete an exceptionally enjoyable playing platform, equally suited to rhythm work and lead playing. The 24.75" scale also retains the familiar feel associated with classic Single Cut guitars.
On the electronics side, the two Schecter Diamond Standard humbuckers deliver a powerful and versatile tone, capable of moving from clear, articulate sounds to thick, muscular overdrive. The Tune-O-Matic bridge with Stop Tailpiece also contributes to excellent stability and generous sustain.
But the real achievement of this Solo-II Standard is its exceptional value for money. Offering a mahogany body, a spectacular figured burl top, a roasted maple neck, rosewood fingerboard, two Schecter humbuckers and such a coherent overall specification at this price point is particularly difficult to compete with. Schecter has managed to create a guitar that genuinely feels like it belongs to a higher category.
A guitar that immediately catches the eye, has a strong personality and, most importantly, delivers seriously impressive performance once plugged in: this Solo-II Standard OBB is exactly the kind of instrument that lets you enjoy a truly distinctive guitar without blowing your budget. A real success for the Standard series, and quite possibly one of the most appealing models in its class!
