Schecter has established itself over the past few decades as one of the most exciting brands in the guitar world, developing a simple yet remarkably effective philosophy: creating modern, serious and extremely well-designed instruments capable of competing with much more expensive models. The Californian brand is particularly renowned for its meticulous finishes, bold configurations and, above all, its exceptional ability to offer guitars with an outstanding price-to-performance ratio.
This PT Standard is a superb example of that philosophy. It is almost impossible not to be impressed by its absolutely stunning appearance. The spectacular figured burl top gives the guitar a truly distinctive personality, with a natural wood pattern that creates an almost three-dimensional effect. The unique character of the top contrasts beautifully with the black hardware and the clean, understated lines of the PT design. It is an instrument that immediately catches the eye without ever becoming excessive.
Schecter has obviously not focused solely on appearance. Behind this striking presentation lies a particularly well-thought-out design. The mahogany body provides a warm, rich and substantial tonal foundation, while the roasted maple neck offers a remarkably pleasant playing feel and excellent stability. Combined with the Thin C profile, 14-inch radius and 22 Jumbo frets, the neck gives the instrument a distinctly modern feel, equally comfortable for rhythm playing and more technical work.
The pair of Schecter Diamond Standard pickups also gives this PT a great deal of versatility. Their humbucker design delivers a thicker, more powerful and substantial sound than that of a traditional Telecaster, while retaining enough clarity and definition to handle clean tones, crunch and high-gain sounds with ease. The fixed Diamond Hardtail bridge, with its string-through-body construction, further contributes to the guitar's solid feel while providing excellent tuning stability.
What is particularly impressive about this Schecter is the overall balance of the instrument. It retains the timeless appeal of the PT silhouette while combining it with a much more contemporary construction, electronics designed for modern styles and a finish that immediately gives the impression of a significantly more expensive instrument.
And this is probably where the PT Standard becomes particularly interesting: its price-to-performance ratio is simply exceptional. Schecter has managed to offer a visually spectacular guitar with serious specifications, excellent playability and remarkable build quality for its price range. This is exactly the kind of instrument that makes you feel you are getting considerably more guitar for your money than the price tag might suggest.
A particularly attractive choice for players looking for something beyond yet another traditional interpretation of the Telecaster: a spectacular look, a strong sonic personality, excellent playability and a modern design, all offered at a very competitive price. This is a PT that definitely deserves to be played, because once you have it in your hands, it is very difficult not to fall in love with it!
