Slingerland 18x20 Bass Drum - Blue Sparkle - converted combo drum - made in Chicago - 1950s 50s vintage

For sale is an old Slingerland combo drum that’s been converted into a bass drum. 20” diameter, 18” deep. Blue sparkle or glittering glass finish - I’m not sure which. 3-ply shell with reinforcement rings. Black and brass oval Chicago badge, so made between 1956 and 1959. New Remo Powerstroke 3 batter head, which gives it a deep fat tone.

Combo drums were originally designed to be used either as drums or floor toms, with one wood bass hoop and one metal Sticksaver hoop. On this drum, the Sticksaver is gone and it has two wood hoops instead.

Some things that aren’t original:
The inlay in one of the hoops is a shade of blue sparkle that doesn’t match the original color. This is probably the non-original hoop mentioned above.
A previous owner installed WFL-style disappearing bass drum spurs.

Other issues:
The shell is slightlyoversized. Modern bass heads do fit, but they’re very tight (similar to round badge Gretsch drums). Cutting back the wrap may improve this.
The original hoop with the original inlay is slightly oversized. It still works.
A previous owner painted the interior black.

The hardware that connected the floor tom legs and cymbal l-arms to the shell are gone and there are holes where the mounts used to be. See pics.
The sparkle finish is old, has darkened in places with time, and has many scratches and small surface cracks.
One of the bass hoops has two holes drilled in it.
When I got it, it had a mixture of contemporary claws and t-rods. I replaced the claws with genuine Slingerland claws, and the rods with new key-tunable rods.

Still, this is a cool bass drum in a rare size that sounds great.
