Vintage Sam F. Chang Koa Soprano Ukulele with Period Case

I am selling a solid koa vintage Sam F. Chang soprano ukulele that likely dates to the 1930s.

Sam F. Chang was employed at the Kamaka factory before branching out on his own.  In addition to working under his own name, he also made ukuleles for Harold and Paul Summers and the Royal Hawaiian. If you know ukuleles, you know the name Sam F. Chang.

On the headstock, the original "Aloha, Hawaii" and "Sam F. Chang, Ukuleles - Guitars - Curio, Honolulu" decals are still there. I believe the case and tuning pegs are original, but I can’t be certain.

As you can see in the photos, there are multiple cracks, front and rear, which isn’t surprising due to the age of the ukulele.  Someone (not me!) tried to glue two of the front cracks with an unidentified glue, and it was very poorly done leaving glue smears which are quite obvious in the photos. The two front cracks have since been cleated and are now secure. The remaining trivial cracks are quite stable.

The ukulele plays great and the action is fine.

Sam F. Chang ukuleles are rare, sought after, and collectible.
