The company traces its lineage directly to the original Zildjian workshop in Istanbul — Agop Tomurcuk and Mehmet Tamdeger were master cymbal smiths trained in the Turkish tradition who founded their own company after the Zildjian family relocated production to the United States, and the result is a workshop that carries the full weight of that centuries-old craft into the present day. Every Istanbul Agop cymbal is entirely handmade — hand-hammered, hand-lathed, and finished by individual smiths using techniques passed down through generations. The variation and complexity that process produces is precisely what makes these cymbals interesting, and no two are exactly alike.
The Signature Flat Ride is one of Istanbul Agop's most deliberate and refined cymbal designs. The flat profile eliminates the bow that conventional ride cymbals use to project and sustain, producing instead a dry, immediate, stick-forward response with a fast decay and no wash buildup — exactly what jazz and studio players reach for when they want definition and articulation over color and sustain. At 1850 grams the Signature Flat Ride has enough mass to produce a full, authoritative stick sound with real body behind it, and the hand-hammered B20 bronze surface gives it the kind of complex, harmonically rich overtone character that machined cymbals simply cannot replicate.
