Rare and discontinued Ashdown Labs AL-MK500 Mark King Signature bass amp head, built in England for Ashdown Engineering’s premium Ashdown Labs range.
Unlike many modern lightweight Class D heads, the MK500 uses an all-analog, rack-mountable design with a substantial toroidal power supply and traditional Class AB MOSFET output stage. Developed with bassist Mark King for fidelity, clarity, fast attack and dynamics, it combines a 12-band graphic EQ, Harmonic Emphasis and balanced low-impedance instrument input. This unit is rated at 500 watts RMS/1,000 watts peak. Ashdown later carried its core preamp design into other premium and artist-signature amplifiers.
This unit is fully functional and exceptionally clean for its age. During my ownership, it has been used sparingly in a pet-free home studio.
The outer front-right faceplate shows a shallow cosmetic indentation. This is cosmetic only; the chassis is straight, and the amplifier mounts and operates normally.
