The Jaguar turned 50 in 2012, and Fender marked it with a run of semi-hollow Thinline Jaguars out of the Dyna Gakki factory in Japan. Most of what you see out there is the 3-Tone Sunburst. This is the Gloss Black, which was the much smaller part of that run.

I want to be straight about that claim: the 1 of 250 figure for this finish is what circulates in the collector community, and it is what I was told about this instrument. I have not been able to put my hands on a Fender production document that confirms it, so treat it as strong community consensus rather than a factory certificate. What I can confirm is the serial, JD12000585, stamped on the back of the neck heel, and that this is the black FSR Thinline, not the sunburst.

What it actually is
Semi-hollow ash body with a single bound f-hole, white binding top and back, maple neck, rosewood board, 24 inch scale. The thinline construction changes the feel more than you would expect. It is lighter than a slab Jaguar, and unplugged it has a real acoustic bloom to it. Plugged in, the original MIJ vintage-style single coils stay bright and glassy the way a Jaguar should, with the usual Jaguar caveat: they are not wax potted, by design, so at very high gain they will let you know about it. That is the trade-off that comes with this circuit, and I would rather tell you now than have you find out at a gig.

The full Jaguar control layout is here and working: lead circuit volume and tone, rhythm circuit volume and tone on the upper bout, and the three-position switch plate. All slide switches move cleanly and do what they should. The floating tremolo is the vintage-style unit with the original threaded saddles, and the arm is included.

Condition, honestly
I graded this Very Good, and I want to walk you through exactly why.
The front is close to flawless. The frets are tall with essentially no wear. The chrome is bright with no pitting worth mentioning. This guitar lived in its case.
The back is where it earns the grade, and there are two separate things happening there.
First, the swirls. Gloss black shows everything, and this one has the fine surface swirl marks that black finishes collect from years of being wiped down. Normal, not through the finish, and honestly unavoidable on this color.

Second, and this is the one I want you to look at closely. There are two small impact marks on the back, low on the body and close to the binding, sitting maybe a quarter inch apart. Under raking light each one shows a lifted rim that catches the light and a dull center that does not reflect the way the finish around it does. You can feel a slight depression with a fingernail. My read is that this guitar took a knock at some point and that a previous owner darkened the marks to make them blend in. I cannot prove that from the outside and I am not going to pretend I can. What I can tell you is that it is cosmetic only, nowhere near anything structural, and completely out of sight from the playing position.

I have circled them, shot them under deliberately harsh light, and included the same frame unannotated so you can see nothing is hiding behind the circle. Photos 15 through 18.

None of this affects playability, the neck, the electronics, or the semi-hollow chamber. If you are buying this to play, it is a non-issue and the price reflects it. If what you want is a black FSR Thinline with a perfect back, this is not your guitar, and I would rather say so now than take your money and argue about it later.

What comes with it
This model shipped from the factory with a deluxe gig bag. This one comes in a USA-made G&G Deluxe Tweed hardshell case with the red plush interior instead, which is a meaningful upgrade and a real part of the value here.
It also has its case candy: the original Japanese Fender warranty and instruction card, the Fender owner's manual, and the original yellow Fender polishing cloth.
