Hand wired clone of a Fender AA764 Vibro Champ head. Upgraded to a 12 watt output transformer and running a JJ 5881. (preamp tubes are also JJ 's) The power tube is running at 98% dissipation with a 330 ohm cathode resistor (5 watt wire wound) Rectifier tube is a JJ 5U4GB and plate to cathode voltage is 335 volts on the 5881. High quality components and hardware used throughout as you can see in the pics. Switchcraft jacks, Belton sockets, carbon comp resistors on the plates for "mojo" Gavitt cloth covered wire (solid 20 awg and 18 awg for tube heaters) Vishay coupling caps, and 1kv caps for the tremolo oscillator. MOD filter caps, Mojotone Can cap. Hammond 12 watt OT with 5k on the plate and has an 8 ohm spreaker out for compatibility with most speaker cabs. I added an extra Filter cap in the power supply to reduce the 60hz hum Single ended amps are known for. It forms an RC filter with a 5 watt, 100 ohm resistor/ 32UF smoothing cap AHEAD of the OT Center tap, which drastically reduces the amp's hum/hiss/self noise. It's at least as quiet as a push-pull output stage as a result. I also set the grid leak to a 330k and V1a and V1b plate resistor to a 150k to push the output stage a bit harder when turned up. I slowed the minimum tremolo speed some and I also added a 2.7k grid stopper to the 5881 to control grid clipping and sweeten overdrive as the power tube is pushed into distortion. I added some reliability upgrades like safety diodes on the rectifier socket and an inrush current thermistor on the primary side of the PT. Still sounds like a champ, just at gig worthy volumes! Head cab is 1 inch solid pine and cabinet grade ply for the baffle and back. Tolex is a heavy duty Bronco type in black. Corner guards and chassis straps are legit Fender parts. Great class A single ended tone. Tremolo has plenty of intensity and an excellent range on the speed knob!. Thanks for looking and feel free to ask any questions! Video clip below! Im straight in with a Les Paul Traditional with a Suhr P.A.F. going into a 2x10 with Jupiter M-10 ceramic speakers.
