Here we have an incredibly rare iteration of the legendary Master Room spring reverbs. This CMP-2 is part of the Super “C” series that Micmix released in the late 70’s. This is a mono unit with features that extend beyond the basic MR-II/MR-III though it foregoes the equalization features of the stereo CSREQ. It has one sound column filled with equalized springs which are then tethered to the main module which controls volume, decay and wet/dry blend. It sounds incredibly lush and deep. Compared to the XL-305 this unit sounds more expansive and rich. I especially loved it on vocals and piano. Plate-like in some respects. It is fairly bright and does not “boing” with transients or percussive sources.
This unit was recently serviced which is why one end of the sound column has a white pvc ring instead of gold. My technician had to get into the sealed tube and repair the internal connector.
It has a fairly high noise floor compared to modern reverbs but it really depends on your gain staging. I found that a 20db pad into the input was necessary to avoid distortion.
This unit is fully functional and fairly clean cosmetically. The tube has many scuffs, though the module is in pristine cosmetic condition.
This sale will include the CMP-2 module, the B-2 sound column and the rare connection cable.
Please let me know if you have any questions, thank you.
