OAK-EFFECTS Variable Viberator

The OAK-EFFECTS Variable Viberator, a fully analog four-stage phaser and multi-modulation pedal, has arrived.

Built around a fully analog four-stage phaser circuit, the Variable Viberator is capable of producing a wide variety of modulation effects, including chorus, vibrato, phaser, and tremolo.

Alongside the two main SPEED and DEPTH controls, the MODE and DEEP switches provide four different operating modes. Despite its simple control layout, the pedal offers an impressively broad range of sounds with intuitive, hands-on operation.

Internally, the operating voltage is boosted to ±15V, providing headroom comparable to rack-mounted equipment and amplifier-based circuits. This gives the pedal a wide dynamic range while retaining the organic movement and character associated with analog modulation.

The Variable Viberator also features an EXP OUT connection, allowing the SPEED parameter to be controlled using an expression pedal. This makes it possible to dynamically change the modulation speed while playing, opening up expressive effects that can be adjusted in real time to suit different passages or songs.

When an expression pedal is connected, its setting takes priority and the pedal's SPEED knob is bypassed. At the minimum position, the modulation effect disappears, allowing the desired sweep range to be configured using the expression pedal's MIN setting.

Separate indicator LEDs are provided for ON/OFF status and SPEED, allowing the current modulation rate to remain visible regardless of whether the effect is engaged.

Power is supplied via a standard 9V DC center-negative adapter. A 006P 9V battery can also be used for emergency operation, with a maximum battery life of approximately 20 minutes.

With a 1MΩ input impedance and output impedance of 10kΩ or higher, the circuit is designed to retain the natural character and response of the connected instrument.

From conventional phasing to chorus, vibrato, and tremolo textures, the Variable Viberator offers an unusually broad modulation palette in a single pedal. Its combination of straightforward controls and a sophisticated fully analog circuit makes it an excellent choice for players looking for something beyond conventional modulation effects.
