Marantz 1060 Vintage Stereo Receiver completely refurbished - very nice! Originally manufactured from 1977 - 80. The receiver was completely refurbished, and 62 electrolytic caps were replaced (every single electrolytic capacitor was replaced)! There were 2 Tantalum capacitors replaced, both trimmer pots were replaced with high-quality Bourns multiturn pots. The 8 dial lamps were replaced with LED fuse bulbs, and the Stereo lamp was replaced with a warm-white LED. All replacement components were sourced from Digikey and Mouser. Smaller value capacitors were replaced with Wima or Kemet film caps. Nichicon, Panasonic, Elna, Kemet, and other high-quality capacitors were used during the refurbishment process. The idle balance (DC offset) was adjusted to 9mV per the service manual. Overall, a very impressive unit to look at, even more so to hear!
Many units are advertised as having the capacitors "checked" but not replaced. Capacitors are relatively cheap, but the time to replace them is not. This is a highly debated topic; however, electrolytic capacitors do have a lifespan of around 20 years. Look at the manufacturers' websites and documentation. They need to be changed! My thoughts are to replace them all; it alleviates any potential issue down the road and ensures a long life for a 40-50-year-old unit! Most shops do not replace all capacitors, as it is not cost-effective! You cannot tell if capacitors are bad by merely looking at them. If they are going to check them, you are halfway to the replacement! The other issue is that most (I am not talking about high-end meters) do not provide an actual capacitance value; they simply state if it is bad. I say replace them!
The receiver was completely cleaned and polished on the outside, and the knobs and front panel all shine. Every board was cleaned during the refurbishment process. The back side of each board was cleaned after capacitor/component replacement with flux cleaner. The switches and controls were all cleaned with contact cleaner and treated with the appropriate DeOxit product. The front panel is beautiful; the lettering is also very nice! A very well-preserved unit overall! Not perfect, but extremely nice to view.
The unit was "broken in" for over 36 hours; it sounds fantastic. I have used this for the past month in my office, and it can be loud! While it is one of the smaller units from Marantz, pair it with some efficient speakers, and it will surprise you. The amplifier section is rated at 16 watts per channel. A very well-made, solid receiver. Sounds great; the phono section is very nice. It is a discreet phono pre-amp. The tuner does a great job picking up distant signals and sounds great as well. Overall, a very nice unit
I will double-box the amplifier and package it very well; I have shipped many large items over the years. Selling as-is due to age.
