This mandolin has clearly had an adventurous life. There are various tap cracks that have been repaired in the past, the peghead overlay has been modified, and it was likely refinished years ago. However, it plays well, sounds great, and is an affordable "snakehead" style mandolin. I have included a 2010 evaluation from Tony Williamson in the last photo. No label or FON. It mandolin belonged to NC Bluegrass Stalwart, Al Batten, and it has been suggested to me that NC luthier/builder C.E. Ward may have done some of the past modifications (I have no firm verification of that). Overall, it's a cool oval hole snakehead mandolin that would serve someone well. Modern hardshell case included.
