Studer A80 mkII reel to reel tape recorder w/buterfly heads low mileage 15/30ips

this upgraded half inch Studer A80 mkII reel to reel tape recorder with butterfly heads (those are clean as mirrors - our pictures show reflections from the room items in them) and low mileage is fully functional and had been used by me on my last ten jazz CD albums of mine as well as on about 45 albums I mixed onto it for my clients in the past twelve years. it's been stored at a university office with year-round air conditioning for past two years due to personal issues (aka divorce and losing my home with the studio space inside). it does both 15ips (more than sufficient with about 32min on each tape) as well as 30ips. Swiss engineering at its best. 

comes with a calibration 1/2" tape however given the age of the electronic inside we offer no warranty of any kind. There are some capacitors which are still original and keep working inside the preamps, but their time span has already reached beyond of what they had been designed for originally. keep this in mind. this is sold as advertised. the unit works like it should thought we recommend about 30-45min warm up time prior before laying down your final mix. Plenty of parts available on ebay as well going forward. Lastly, I also have bunch of 1/2" tapes (some seen on a few pics), both new and used, many of which are the very best Quantegy GP9. The tapes alone are valued at about $4k in my estimate where each is priced at around $160 these days. the buyer will have a choice of purchasing some or all of them separately if interested once they come to pick this beast up.

There is no shipping given its size and weight (about 300+ pounds). You'll need to come pick this up in person at a local univesity's school of music building on campus in Cullowhee, NC. The good news, it fits into our elevator and we have a loading dock available. It can be moved relatively easily all the way outside as it has sturdy build-in wheels. The way this unit blends natural tape saturation and tape compression without adding much noticeable noise (no Dolby needed!), it's pure magic. I own nearly all the tape emulation plug-ins and none come close.
