Vintage Sennheiser MD441-N dynamic microphone in excellent condition

I am offering a vintage Sennheiser MD441-N dynamic microphone for sale (circa 1985) in excellent condition, with the small Tuchel connector. The microphone has been used sparingly and shows virtually no signs of wear on the body; the grille is free of dents. The microphone’s sound is very full and clear, with powerful bass response! Included with the microphone are an original, brand-new clip, manuals, and a brand-new adapter.

The MD 441 is considered one of the best dynamic microphones ever built. Known for its exceptional clarity, wide frequency range, remarkable transient response, and precise directional characteristics, it has been a favorite in professional studios, broadcast facilities, and live productions for decades. The MD 441 is manufactured in Germany to the highest standards and offers sound quality that rivals that of many condenser microphones, while retaining the ruggedness and reliability of a dynamic design.

M (Music): This is the linear/bypass mode. This mode provides a full, natural reproduction of low frequencies down to 30 Hz, which is ideal for recording instruments or vocals in the studio.

S (Speech): This activates a filter with a steep roll-off in the low-frequency range, designed to suppress low-frequency rumble and the proximity effect when speaking close to the capsule. This ensures optimal speech intelligibility in broadcasts or PA applications.

The settings between the M and S positions function as a 5-step high-pass filter, allowing you to gradually attenuate the low frequencies depending on your sound source.

Brilliance Switch

The MD 441 provides amplification in the high-frequency range. This feature can be activated using a switch on the bottom of the microphone.

This switch can be easily operated with a pencil or a small pin. When the switch is set to the + position, frequencies above 3 kHz are boosted by approximately 5 dB. This setting is recommended when the microphone is used by a vocal soloist. The microphone can then be held vertically in front of the chest, and the singer practically sings right over it. Even then, the sound remains superb.

The five settings of the roll-off filter can be combined with the two settings of the brilliance switch. This allows you to choose from ten different frequency response settings.

Wind and Pop Filter

The MD 441 is equipped with a built-in pop filter that is not made solely of foam rubber. This pop filter not only serves as a dust cover but also attenuates all explosive and unwanted sibilants.
